Three Floyds Announces Dark Lord Day 2012

A announcement that many craft beer fans look forward to every year came down this week, so start making your plans now. Three Floyds Brewing Company out of Munster, Indiana posted details for this years Dark Lord Day earlier this week, and the event appears ready to continue to grow.

For those unfamiliar with Dark Lord Day, it’s not some sort of Gothic festival or Star Wars Darth Vader appreciation event. No, this event is a celebration of one of the best Russian Imperial Stouts brewed. The beer has been described as “a gargantuan Russian Stout brewed with coffee, molasses, and honey; 13% abv.” And that description doesn’t include the many variations. It’s probably the beer for which Three Floyds is most famous, and is rated as one of the best beers in the world.

Part of what makes it so great is the limited availability of the beer. It is sold only on one day, and you have to not only show up, but you have to buy a ticket just to stand in line. Now before you say that is ridiculous (which is kind of is), let me just remind you that thousands of people want in on this, and the thing sells out every year. Dark Lord is up for sale on Ebay year round, and typically goes for upwards of 75-100 dollars per bottle. It’s one of the top rated beers on RateBeer and BeerAdvocate as well. Here are some DLD tips from the Three Floyds guys themselves.

Darklord Day 2012 will be on Saturday, April 28th. If you are planning on attending, we have a few suggestions (and some firm rules).

A ticket will be required for entry to Darklord Day. Please do not make travel plans until you have a ticket. Ticket sales will be announced soon.

Once again, the Munster Police Department will enforce traffic flow and loitering (again, no RVs will be allowed in the industrial Park).

Darklord Day is a 21 and over event.

Pets will not be permitted.

Coolers, furniture, tents, grills etc… will not be permitted. If you want to bring a couple beers to trade or sample, that’s great within reason.

Parking is not provided by the brewery. Please carpool and designate a driver.

Darklord day is cash only. ATMs will be available on site.

Please respect our town and neighbors. We want to continue to hold a safe and fun event in the years to come and we can only do it with your help.

Please follow us on our blog, Facebook or Twitter for the latest info as we release it.

Are you going to Dark Lord Day? Have you been in the past? What was your experience, and what are your tips for new attendees?
